Squashing celandine with ‘English Social History’
First true walk of Spring
Iron bench; hedges cut: happy view
Rolled up coat for pillow
Iron pushing into my back as I
Look at the sky.
Striding out. Dry stone walls.
Bonfire…
New old connections in my brain.
Distant echoes from cottage walls.
Peace comes over me with the old hamlet’s
Promise of the eternal
Eternal lives working an
Eternal Land.
Exotic threats hard to compute.
12 years to set things right.
But still Spring smells like Spring.
I offer up my Reverie to the Earth.
And to those who walked before.
Coming home, I press the flowers.
Squashing celandine
With ‘English Social History’.
